Equipment

Below is a preliminary kit list of everything I will take with me on my PCT attempt. The aim is to pack only what is absolutely necessary and have a Base Pack Weight, ie not including food, water, or gear worn, as light as possible. The kit you take with you on the trail is generally a function of weight, cost and robustness. My estimate at present is a BPW of about 9kg, which is higher than the average but given my size it is not unreasonable. I have also tried to include the cost of every item I have bought to prepare for this trip. An 'N/A' in the costs section means I alerady owned the item and thus haven't included it in my costings, or it means the item is included elsewhere, e.g my whistle came attached to the chest strap of my rucksack.
A blank space means I still have to buy and/or weigh the item, or that I have decided I won't buy it in the short term.

Table 1 lists what I expect have on my back at any one time.
