Day 40 : Zero at Tehachapi + The Top Gear Challenge

30th May 2013

Today was spent doing chores and recovering from the day before. It was also spent buying 'presents' for our fellow hikers. In hikertown over a beer i explained the concept of the TopGear challenge, which always ends up with each member of the team having to transport a large and cumbersome item a long way. With TopGear in mind we set about shopping for each other. We pulled.names.out of a hat to decide who got who and u ended.up with Dishcloth. I decided the best thing for him, given how Texan he is, would be a very large British union flag. I bought an A2 size piece of plastic, and some marker pens and set to work. Some hours later masterpiece was.complete and it was time for the prize giving ceremony. Dishcloth was suitably thrilled to receive his present, but not as much as i was to receive mine. I was lucky enough to receive three things : a large cinderella soft toy, a front mounted baby carrier to accommodate cinderella, and a small American flag. I can tell the hiking is going to be so much more enjoyable with all this strapped to me.

My resupply for the next two sections

Whispers is way more hardcore than me, his resupply mostly consists of oatmeal, which he  eats raw .

  1. When you stock up on supplies, do you have to be sure how many days before the next opportunity and so pack the food into the right number of plastic bags? If so, I'm very proud of you if you manage to stop yourself sneaking your favourite item out of each bag on the first day?
