Day 67 : Reds Meadow

25th June 2013
Mile 887 to mile 906.5 : Silver Pass to Reds Meadow
Mileage : 19.5
The weather was still miserable when i stuck my head out of the tent in the morning, and it made for difficult morning routine. The bottom of my sleeping bag had been touching the side of the tent and was now sopping wet, it was less than ideal. We set off as quickly as possible knowing the best way to get warm was to get hiking, so off we went. The plan was to get to Reds Meadow, the portal to Mammoth Lakes by the middle of the afternoon for some well deserved rest. Happily, the weather gradually improved throughout the day and by 4pm we had arrived in glorious sunshine. By 5pm we were on the hour long shuttle heading oddly up the mountain towards Mammoth and by 6pm i was happily consuming copious calories in both solid and liquid form, it was a markedly better day than the previous one. The day ended with us meeting up with lots of other hikers in our cheapy motel room catching up and sharing Sierra adventure stories, everyone relaxing after several tough days out in the mountains.
